They would have to be running a sniffer to capture all packets collected and destined to that router. I guess you could Google "WiFi packet sniffer" to see those types of tools.
Most home networks (should) have some kind of encryption or MAC address filtering, or both set. WPA2 is the current common encryption supported by most home routers.
