I am thinking I will simply (and ambiguously) call it a "life-changing amount of money" since that is a relative thing. I told so many people with the intent to help them out that I will not be able to hide it well. Plus, I have big plans for my earnings.

Seagull ,
One thing that my husband said made sense to me .
We have been hearing the money wouldn't come all a once .
So , if they pay the dollar first , to buy into CIM , and our rights
are as we have heard recently ,are "RR" , instede of three we
can excersise our rights have plenty of money left over .
THEN THEY KEEP THE .53 OR .56 WHAT EVER IT IS NOW , UNTILL
OCT. 26TH , THEN EVERYBODY WILL HAVE OWNED THE STOCK
FOR A YEAR , EVEN THE FOLKS WHO BOUGHT MUNITES BEFORE
REVOCATION . THEN THE TAX RATE WILL BE 15% INSTEAD OF THE
HIGH RATE . And be gaining interest in the mean time .

Fixe... then you won't be keeping it a secret. You might want to re think that... What about ... I think I might have enough to do what I need to do. ;D My point is that I don't think I CAN keep it a secret to do what I want to do. I don't intend to flaunt it but I intend to make a difference with it. I know my life is going to be very different and many people will notice. Clients are going to call me and I am going to have to turn them down for work and refer them to colleagues. I know they'll ask "why?" My explanation will probably be a little different for everyone I talk to. Your suggestion will work too. I think they're both rather ambiguous.

Telling the truth is always a better idea than lying- one thing leads to another, and then you have to keep your story straight (consistent) forever. But we can't tell the truth in this case...Hmmm. This is what I'll say: "So, how did you make out on that 'stock play of a lifetime' ? Oh, I made billions of dollars! Really? Yep, I am INCREDIBLY wealthy! Want another beer?" And then never talk about it again. Would YOU believe me? If you don't deny it, but don't brag about it, no one will believe it.

My husband & I decided that we would tell our friends and fellow workers (which will soon be former fellow workers) "we were lucky and hit on a stock play of a lifetime" (spoal - my name- get it )!

Tell these old clients that you are working for a new company and aren't doing the same thing you used to do but you can refer them to a great _______ (programmer, accountant .......). If they mention money, Yes I did get a raise and the company is working out great. So new car, etc is explained but no referral of wealth. IF you are planning on doing some kind of philanthropic work - start another company and have all the gifts go through that company with the company name and not yours as the giver so on the front in the public eye, it won't be you giving away money. Just some ideas I am thinking about. Handtalker

Yes, my diamond stock finally hit and I'm going to take a little time off while I figure out what I'm going to do next. Thanks for asking!

When asked what ever happened to that diamond company... "You have at least three hours? I'll try and explain it." "It's way too convoluted. If you didn't follow things from the beginnng..." "We did okay." , can you believe it, we finally made some money. I think one of the best things from the experience is the people from all over the world I met in a chatroom--- and to think I used to be afraid of the computer. Regards, Suzyq

Outside of those that need to know, why would you tell anyone about your finances anyway? Best post in the thread IMO mymoney! Good idea to discuss this issue Seagull. I spent the day reading articles etc about new wealth, sudden money etc. Huge eyeopener. Unless you were in the habit of revealing your financial position before, why would you do so after a windfall? There is tons and tons of valid, documented, statistical information and research to show that people with money have as many, if not more problems than they did before they received it. Much of what those problems are for us as individuals is based on our behaviour and mental readiness after we receive it. I highly suggest taking the time to educate yourself on the information in this area. Realize that the roller coaster, in actuality, hasnt even begun. Protecting yourself and not flaunting (even by being charitable) is going to assist you greatly. The less people know the better, for many reasons. My answer NO ONE will know exactly how much I have or how I manage it unless they have been hired to do so. It is nobody's business, wasnt before, wont be now. Having an answer that you become comfortable with is a great idea. Stick to the same one and people will give up trying to and/or tricking it out of you. Suggestion, I did well with a few stocks and I have enough to allow me to take care of myself. End of story! Di

How about this?
What ever happened to that diamond stock? Well, the company ended up settling for a lot of money, but there are over 35,000 shareholders, so you know how that goes . . .

How did your stock turn out?
"Can you believe it? I ended up with only 135 shares of Entourage! Heck, I invested more in to CMKX than what I got out of those shares, dang it!!!"
Well how did you afford that new Super Charged Range Rover?
"How did you afford your Honda Accord?."
I worked for it.
"Exactly!!!!!"

Well these are all great answers but when I actually start helping family members (and I have several on my list) and they start comparing notes and also what changes I'll be making personally it wont be difficult for them to put the pieces together and realize what a score I made.
